  • I love making my house look nice. I love everything home decor related. But - I consider myself a frugal person, and don’t like spending a lot of money on those things.

As I was browsing Pinterest one day, I stumbled upon a lantern made from picture frames. I though it was darling - and I wanted one, too!

    • 4 picture frames ($1 each)
    • Electrical tape (two rolls for $1 at Dollarama)
    • Hot glue ($1)

First, remove the back and picture from your frames, leaving just the frame and glass

Then attach the glass to the frame by removing the glass, adding a dot of hot glue to each corner, and sticking the glass back on. Be careful to apply the glue as high in the corner as possible, so the glue won’t be seen from the front of your frame.

Next, and this is optional, cut thin strips of electrical tape. I used a ruler and knife to ensure my lines were fairly straight.

Then apply it to the back of each frame - so it takes on the appearance of leaded glass. The lantern looks pretty without as well, so feel free to skip this step.

Finally, hot glue your lantern together. Lay one frame flat, add a thin strip of hot glue to one side and attach a frame. Hold for ten seconds. Then repeat on the other side. Hold for ten seconds. Finally, apply a strip of glue to both top edges, and stick your final frame on. Hold for ten seconds.

You can add a bottom to your lantern, or a top, but I think it is pretty just like this.

I put a candle in mine, but it could also be used for flowers. A glass vase inside, with the flowers, would look lovely.

Adding black and white pictures to the frames would be a great way to truly personalize your lantern. The frames could also be painted (before gluing in the glass) to match any decor!
