Crafts for Kids - DIY Crayons
Oh, the joy of crayons. I just love them! The smell immediately reminds me of sweet little toddlers creating their first masterpieces.
Something happens, though, at about the age of 3. Crayons begin to lose their appeal and the [much messier] markers begin to make their first appearance. Well, my almost 3 year old can’t leave that toddler crayon stage yet. I’m simply not ready!
Sometimes changing something is just as good as getting something new. This simple change to his crayons (especially since he helped) has rekindled his love for them… for now at least for a little while longer.
Here’s how to make multi-coloured shaped crayons:
Instructions
Remove the paper and break up your crayons.
Put them in a silicone cupcake tray and place on a plate.
Microwave in 1 minute intervals, checking each time to see if the crayons have completely melted (this will likely take about 5-7 minutes).
Allow to cool completely.
These cute crayon shapes make wonderful gifts for little ones. Heart shaped crayons could be lovingly handed out on Valentine’s day to your young child’s classmates or preschool friends. Snowflakes or snowmen for Christmas. Pumpkins at Halloween. The possibilities are endless!
This is a wonderful way to reuse broken and old crayons, too, instead of just throwing them in the trash.
There is lots of time for markers. I`ll do anything to extend these precious, mess-free (most of the time), crayon days!
Have you ever made your own crayon shapes?
