DIY Kitchen Organizer for Only $2!
Organization is something I am trying hard to improve upon in my home, but organizers can be pricey! This homemade organizer is so simple. It is made of recycled material and some shelf liner.
My counter always seems to have a pile of ‘stuff’ waiting. Waiting to be filed, to be mailed, to be paid - just waiting! Furthermore, I have walking pens and scissors, which always disappear.
This organizer solves all my counter troubles, and re-uses materials. It’s a great activity for kids - and an excellent organizer for THEIR desks too.
I used:
- Shelf Liner - $2
- Hot Glue
- Cracker boxes, paper towel rolls, cereal boxes, etc.
First, I needed to figure out what I wanted my organizer to hold. I decided to have 5 sections:
- ‘Waiting’ Papers
- Scissors
- Pencils and Pens
- Scrap Paper for Notes
- Envelopes and Stamps
Next, I decided what boxes I would use for what sections and cut them up.
Then, I covered them with the shelf liner. I covered the boxes as if I were wrapping a present. The tubes I covered by rolling in the shelf liner, making cuts at the top, and tucking the paper inside. Sometimes I added a dot of hot glue - just to ensure they stay put.
I decided how I would like them organized and glued them together. I was originally going to organize them on a separate sheet of cardboard, but decided it was unnecessary, as they stayed together nicely just like that.
This organizer works very well for me. I like having things out where I can easily access them instead of in a drawer - I find it keeps me tidier. If I can just shove things into a drawer, they are out of sight and out of mind. If I have to regularly see those items, I am more mindful to keep them organized.
I especially like always having a spot for my papers waiting to be organized. For me, disorganization is a slippery slope. If I already have a messy pile I am very likely to simply continue adding to it! But if everything has a place, I am much more likely to stick with it.
Do you have kitchen organizer to help keep counter clutter at bay?

My favorite have been your baby skincare recipes. I’ve had success with all of them. You’ve saved me lots of money! I even went out and bought the same silicone heart shaped pan! I love anything baby/kid related.
